NJSC “Astana Medical University” Press release International conference dedicated to the nurse’s day “Nursing education, research and practice in Kazakhstan: investment in the future of nursing”

Within the framework of the ACCELERATED project – “Improving nursing education at the master’s and doctoral level in the higher education system of Kazakhstan”, on May 19-20, 2022, the next international conference “Nursing Education, research and practice in Kazakhstan: investments in the future of nursing” was held.
Greetings to the participants of the conference were made by:
Kamalzhan Talgatovich Nadyrov, Chairman of the Board-Rector of the NAO “Astana Medical University”; Hans Kluge, Director of the WHO Regional Office for Europe; Margrietalangins, Policy Adviser in the field of nursing and Obstetrics at the WHO Regional Office for Europe; Pamela Cipriano, President of the International Council of Nurses; Narbekova Banu Mukataevna, Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Education and Science, partner of the ACCELERATED project.
The rector of the University Kamalzhan Talgatovich Nadyrov opened the conference with welcoming words, who noted the importance of the tasks in the development of nursing in Kazakhstan.
The need to develop nursing before the conference participants was noted by the Head of the European Regional Office of the World Health Organization, Hans Kluge. He said that nurses make a significant contribution to healthcare by providing assistance and quality care to society, especially emphasized the contribution of nurses when working with vulnerable segments of the population (the elderly, children, pregnant women) and their valuable assistance during the fight against Covid-19. He also noted the importance of the formation of interprofessional competencies, as well as the development and implementation of digital learning. Another problem is the shortage of personnel, the fact that in many countries there are too few graduates of nursing and midwifery education. Which is also noted in the 2020 report published during the pandemic, which showed a significant shortage of nursing staff.
